Ahead of Monday night’s primetime matchup with the Raiders, the Chargers are making a handful of roster moves.
First, the Chargers are placing linebacker Denzel Perryman on IR with a designation to return. He’ll miss a minimum of four games before he can return to the field.
Taking his place on the active roster will be long snapper Rick Lovato who was signed to the practice squad after final cuts and elevated to the game day roster against the Chiefs. He will continue to replace Josh Harris who is currently on IR.
Lastly, the Chargers are elevating safety Tony Jefferson and linebacker Kana’i Mauga to the game roster against the Raiders. With the linebacker room very thin heading into Monday, the Chargers may end up going with a lot of Dime personnel, meaning six defensive backs with Derwin James as the second “linebacker” in the middle. It should also be noted that Elijah Molden has already been ruled out, meaning that Jefferson is the likely third safety with James and Gilman after a Week One that saw Molden play 90 percent of the defensive snaps.
