A former wide receiver of the Pittsburgh Steelers is now looking for a new home in the NFL.

The Los Angeles Chargers are waiving former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Dez Fitzpatrick with an injury designation, according to Aaron Wilson of KPRC2.

Fitzpatrick, 25, spent most of the 2024 regular season on the Chargers’ practice squad after being released by the Steelers in early September. He made a case for himself on Pittsburgh’s 53-man roster last preseason, but the team decided to go with five wide receivers and kept Scotty Miller as the final receiver.

Fitzpatrick began his NFL career as a fourth-round pick (No. 109 overall) by the Tennessee Titans in the 2021 NFL Draft. He was waived prior to his rookie season but re-signed to the Titans’ practice squad.

He went on to play two seasons in Tennessee, recording just five catches for 49 yards and a touchdown in four games.

After Fitzpatrick’s practice squad contract with the Titans expired following the 2022 season, he signed a reserve/future contract with the Steelers.

During Fitzpatrick’s first season in Pittsburgh, he spent most of his time on the team’s practice squad. He was elevated to the active roster for one game but reverted back to the practice squad after. In his one game, Fitzpatrick failed to record a stat.

Coming out of high school as a consensus four-star recruit, Fitzpatrick decided to take his talents to the University of Louisville. He redshirted during his freshman season and did not appear in any games in 2016.

Over his five years as a Cardinal, Fitzpatrick played in 48 games and racked up 154 receptions for 2,589 yards and 21 receiving touchdowns. His 21 touchdowns ranked fifth all-time in school history.

Fitzpatrick will revert to the Chargers’ injured reserve if he goes unclaimed on waivers.
