Boston College’s Donovan Ezeiruaku was second in the nation with 16.5 sacks in 2024.

The more signings the Chargers have made this offseason, the more it looks like Joe Hortiz and Jim Harbaugh are attempting to set themselves up to take best player available in the first round of this year’s draft.

If that ends up being the case, I actually believe edge rusher becomes much more likely to happen at the No. 22 pick. It’s a premium position, the Chargers need to get younger there quickly knowing Khalil Mack and Bud Dupree are likely gone in 2026, and there’s a good group of high-upside players who should be available in the latter half of the first round.

One player that could go around when the Chargers pick is Boston College edge rusher Donovan Ezeiruaku who has done nothing but impress this draft season. At this year’s NFL draft, Ezeiruaku actually met with the Chargers in a formal setting, per The Draft Network’s Justin Melo.

One of the best athletic tests for edge rushers to perform well in is the three-cone drill which displays their ability to turn on a dime and accelerate around tight corners. Ezeiruaku blazed to a 6.94 in the drill at the combine which was tops among all edge rushers. That type of elite agility translate well to the pros which makes Ezeiruaku a potential gem near the end of the first.

In his final year at Boston College, Ezeiruaku notched 16.5 sacks and a whopping 20.5 tackles for loss. His sack total was good for second in the nation while his tackles for loss were fourth. At 6’2 1⁄2 and 250 pounds, he’s a bit undersized compared to what’s ideal for elite edge players, but his high football IQ and ability to play the run truly make him one of the best well-rounded edge players in this class.
