Help for the Chargers at tight end may be on the way!

According to NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero, the Chargers hosted former Jaguars and Giants tight end Evan Engram in Los Angeles. The news comes a day after Engram reportedly met with the Broncos on Monday.

The battle for the top available tight end could be a tight one as both teams can offer the chance to star for a contender in the AFC. Both teams are in desperate need of upgrading the position, but only one has an established quarterback who likes getting the tight end involved early and often and that’s the Chargers’ Justin Herbert.

In three seasons with the Jaguars, Engram hauled in 234 receptions for 2,094 yards and nine touchdowns. His best season has a professional came in 2023 when he recorded 114 receptions for 963 yards and four touchdowns. During the 2024 season, Engram was limited to only nine starts thanks to a torn labrum suffered halfway through the schedule. He still managed to record 47 catches for 365 yards and one score.

At 6’3 and 234 pounds, Engram ran a 4.42 in the 40-yard dash at the NFL Combine back in 2017. While his speed likely isn’t at its’ peak anymore, Engram is still one of the best flex tight ends in the NFL when healthy. Paired with Will Dissly, the Chargers would have a very complementary tight end duo, similar to the Ravens’ duo of Mark Andrews and Isaiah Likely.
