The Chargers could be looking to find a cheaper swing tackle as they met with BYU offensive tackle Caleb Etienne at the BYU pro day.
Last week, the Chargers were busy making the rounds at various pro days across the country.
According to Justin Melo of The Draft Network, the Chargers were one of a handful of teams who took the time to meet personally with BYU offensive tackle Caleb Etienne during his program’s pro day on March 19. Other teams that reportedly met with Etienne were the Dolphins, Raiders, and 49ers.
At nearly 6’8 and almost 330 pounds, Etienne looks looks like an elite prototypical offensive tackle in the NFL. However, he’s currently being viewed as a day-three draft pick with developmental traits that an NFL team would want to work with.
Etienne was named an All-American at the JUCO level back in 2019 and has since played for both Oklahoma State and BYU.
In his first year at Oklahoma State, he appeared in three games before electing to hold on to his redshirt. The following season in 2022, he started all 13 games at left tackle.
After transferring to BYU, Etienne struggled at right tackle for the Cougars before being benched and moving to guard. However, he bounced back as the team’s left tackle in 2024, earning First-Team All-Big 12 honors after starting every game as the team’s blindside protector.
During BYU’s pro day, Etienne had impressive testing numbers, clocking in at sub-5.0 in the 40 and jumping 9’6” in the broad jump.
