Bolts From The Blue
The Los Angeles Chargers are making a change to their coaching staff following their elimination in the playoffs at the hands of the New England Patriots.
According to NFL Network insider Ian Rapaport, the Chargers are firing offensive coordinator Greg Roman after two years with the team. The news comes after the team scored just three points in their loss against the Patriots in the wild card round.
Before Roman was with the Chargers, he spent five years with the Baltimore Ravens and was ultimately promoted to their offensive coordinator position.
Rappaport’s colleague at NFL Network, Tom Pelissero, is reporting that the Chargers are also firing offensive line coach Mike Devlin. The Chargers struggled mightily on the offensive line this season, and Herbert was one of the most pressured quarterbacks in the NFL. Injuries to Joe Alt and Rashawn Slater were a big part of why the team struggled in the trenches, but it doesn’t excuse the poor performance from the rest of the players all season long.
Now the Chargers will look to replace Roman and try to find someone who will elevate their offense and get it back to the level they need it to compete in the playoffs next season and beyond. With a number of head coaches leaving their 2025 posts, there is a flurry of coordinators and assistants moving around the league, so the Chargers should have a decent number of options to look at in the upcoming weeks.
