Could the Chargers end up with the most physical offensive weapon in this draft class?
The tight end position stands out as one that needs immediate attention in an offense that historically relies so heavily on it being a factor in every phase of the game. While Will Dissly was serviceable last season, it’s clear that the team needs an upgrade at the position. In a loaded tight end draft, it’s possible that this classes top tight end gets pushed down into trade up range for Jim Harbaugh and the Bolts and they could possibly come away with one of the draft’s most intriguing offensive weapons in Penn State’s Tyler Warren.
Warren was an absolute stud for the Nittany Lions last season, coming away with over 1,400 scrimmage yards and 12 touchdowns on a year as the offense’s primary weapon. Warren is physical monster who possesses outrageous athleticism for a person of his size and strength, able to blow past defenders or blow through them with the ball in his hands. Warren is not just an elite pass catcher either as he excels as a blocker who consistently wins one-on-ones with linebackers and is someone that allows a rushing attack to flourish through his physicality.
It’s possible that the Los Angeles Chargers luck out and find themselves in range of Warren and it could force their hand to go get an elite prospect at a much-needed position. Warren would be an immediate upgrade who would bring so much value to the offense on day one and give Justin Herbert an elite safety blanket as well. Warren’s value in both the passing and rushing attack cannot be overstated and his fit within this offense is very natural and one that Harbaugh and the front office should value appropriately.
