Could the Chargers target the speedy receiver out of Missouri to help boost their receiving core in the 2025 NFL Draft?
While the Los Angeles Chargers certainly got a lot of last year's second round pick in Ladd McConkey, the receiver room still needs an upgrade. With McConkey as a certified stud and Quentin Johnston being a hot and cold player, it could prove to be a big boost to the offense to get Justin Herbert yet another receiver who could turn up the heat on offense. Missouri’s Luther Burden III fits the mold of a receiver who can come in right away and make a big impact on offense right away.
Although Burden didn’t quite improve upon his breakout 2023 season, he still had a fantastic year and proved to be one of the most explosive players in college football. Over the past two seasons Burden has wracked up over 1,800 yards and 15 touchdowns through the air as the Tigers’ top target. Burden is a speedy and twitchy athlete who make his money both over the top of defenses and as a weapon with the ball in his hands as the best yards-after-catch receiver in the 2025 draft class. Burden has the speed, vision, and agility to make himself an impact player on offense as soon as he hits the field.
While the Chargers may be looking for a more full-time receiver on the outside, there isn’t a true limitation on where Burden can play and offensive coordinator Greg Roman would find plenty of ways to put the ball in his hands.
