Ahead of Friday night’s matchup with the Chiefs, the Chargers announced their two practice squad elevations with long snapper Rick Lovato and Foster Sarell being called up to duty. Lovato was signed following a workout earlier this month to help replace Pro Bowler Josh Harris while he is on injured/reserve. Sarell was signed by the Chargers recently as a familiar face to help reinforce a position that’s taken some hits due to injury.
Sarell was with the Chargers from 2021 to 2024 before signing with the Commanders in free agency. He was let go in final cuts which led to him returning to Los Angeles. Foster also spent time in Baltimore with general manager Joe Hortiz as an undrafted free agent out of Stanford.
With Mekhi Becton questionable heading into tonight with an unspecified illness, there’s a chance Jamaree Salyer fills in at right guard. In that scenario, Sarell or Austin Deculus immediately becomes the swing tackle.
