After a standout season, the Chargers are rewarding Elijah Molden with a new 3-year contract.

On Thursday evening, NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported that the Chargers have agreed to terms with safety Elijah Molden on a new three-year contract. The deal locks in the the 26-year old who was a standout performer for the Bolts in his first season with Los Angeles.

Molden was one of the most-improved players in the NFL during the 2024 season after joining the Chargers via trade (2026 seventh-round pick) from the Tennessee Titans. A former third-round pick in 2021, Molden started just 16 games during his first three professional seasons. This past season, Molden was a fixture in Jesse Minter’s defense, earning 12 starts and playing in 15 games before suffering a season-ending injury against the Patriots in Week 17.

Before being sidelined, Molden recorded career highs across the board with 75 total tackles, three interceptions, seven pass breakups, and two fumble recoveries.

Seeing how the Chargers and Molden were able to come to a deal before the start of the free agency period, the latter’s injury must not have such a bad prognosis that both sides feel confident he’ll be ready for training camp later this year.
