Ruiz shared his thoughts on Tyler Shough and Spencer Rattler on Good Morning Football.

When Derek Carr announced his retirement from the NFL in May, it put a big spotlight on the New Orleans Saints quarterback situation. The Saints had just recently drafted Louisville quarterback Tyler Shough in the 2nd round of April’s NFL Draft, adding him to QB room that also included their 2024 fifth-round pick Spencer Rattler, 2023 fourth-round pick Jake Haener and recent UDFA signing Hunter Dekkers.

Saints Head Coach Kellen Moore made it clear immediately after rookie minicamp that the team would be holding an open competition at quarterback and Saints guard Cesar Ruiz shared his thoughts on his quarterbacks during a recent appearance on NFLN’s Good Morning Football.

“Two different persons, two different quarterbacks, right? Everybody has their superpower. Everybody is good at their thing. So, Spencer has something, and I’m like, hey, he got that, and Tyler will come in there, and I’m like, hey... This is just talent. When you see two talented guys just competing, it’s truly fun to see.

“I know you guys touched on that we drafted (Shough) early. We drafted him 2nd round, 40th overall, still super early in the draft. I think just because we drafted a quarterback super early doesn’t mean you have to push him in there and play. Cause I was drafted 24th overall as an offensive lineman, and I didn’t end up starting until Week 4. I was in and out of the lineup my rookie year. So, I think it’s about development. It’s about who you see fit right now.”

We will get to see the quarterback completion in full swing when the Saints hit the field for the training camp starting July 22nd.
