We now know how Marshawn Kneeland passed away.
On Thursday morning, the Cowboys announced that the 24-year-old Kneeland had passed away just days after the team’s game on Monday Night Football.
“It is with extreme sadness that the Dallas Cowboys share that Marshawn Kneeland tragically passed away this morning. Marshawn was a beloved teammate and member of our organization. Our thoughts and prayers regarding Marshawn are with his girlfriend Catalina and his family.”

Apparently Kneeland had a mental health breakdown, and committed suicide after being pursued by police.
On Thursday afternoon, police released a statement revealing that they attempted to stop Kneeland for a traffic violation, which resulted in a chase.
“Texas Department of Public Safety Troopers attempted to stop a vehicle for a traffic violation on the northbound lanes of the Dallas North Tollway near Keller Springs Blvd,” a statement from the Texas Department of Public Safety read. “The driver refused to stop, resulting in a pursuit with DPS Troopers.”
The police lost track of the car, but would later find Kneeland deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
“The vehicle was later located abandoned and had been involved in a crash on the southbound lanes of Dallas Parkway near Warren Parkway. DPS Aircraft and Troopers, along with the Frisco Police Department, searched the immediate area and found the driver, Marshawn Kneeland, deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.”

TMZ reports that Kneeland texted his girlfriend with a concerning message before committing suicide.
Operators in Texas are heard relaying information from Kneeland’s girlfriend, who stated she received a concerning message from the 24-year-old and was trying to contact the defensive end’s agent.
The girlfriend said Kneeland was armed and had a history of mental issues … and she was quoted saying he would “end it all.”
The dispatch also stated the NFL called Plano PD regarding one of its players … stating the “subject is texting his family goodbye.”
