Casual Friday: What other sports do you follow once NFL season ends?

Or... is football all you follow?

Welcome to the Casual Friday open thread! This is where we take a break from Seattle Seahawks talk and veer off-topic with the rest of the Field Gulls community.

I guess we’re still sort of talking Seahawks because this is NFL-related. This weekend is the first of 29 consecutive Sundays without meaningful NFL football on our screens. If you want to chop off five weeks for preseason, it’s 24 or 25 Sundays depending on how the schedule shakes out.

The NFL gives us by far the fewest games of any of the major North American sports leagues and consequently the longest offseason. When the NBA and NHL finish up in June, they’re ready to return to action in October. MLB’s World Series usually ends in late October or early November, and now we’re already gearing up for spring training ahead of the late March start. Most soccer leagues around the world have long seasons and short turnarounds (e.g. MLS Cup was in December and the new season starts in February).

When the Super Bowl ends in February, we ain’t got a sniff of a game for six months. We have teasers like free agency, the NFL Draft, and the schedule release that keep us engaged during the offseason but it’s not an actual game.

During that stretch without the NFL, do you follow any other sports closely? And if so, which ones? I know we have a lot of Seattle Mariners and Sounders fans on this site, which means it won’t be too long before those teams are back in action. The Kraken are... well two seasons ago was pretty fun, right?

I’ll be watching track and field regularly while its in indoor season and then look forward to the start of outdoor season in April. All other sports leagues (e.g. Premier League, NBA, and NHL) will get my attention but not necessarily with the same intensity as I watch the NFL and the Seahawks specifically.
