Carolina Panthers starting running back Rico Dowdle was fined by the NFL for his Key and Peele inspired “Two-Pump” touchdown celebration against the Packers. He is using that punishment as motivation to help his community.
Dowdle started a GoFundMe page to raise money for local charity. He has already matched his NFL penalty and hopes to raise more.

The fifth-year running back has been one of the league’s best stories in 2025. In his first season with the Panthers, he’s shined.
Dowdle is the NFC’s leading rusher, totaling 735 yards through nine games. Making those numbers more impressive is the fact that he didn’t land the feature role until midway through the season.
The rusher totaled 28 carries across his first four games. He has 103 in the five games since.
In four of his last five outings, he’s racked up at least 96 total yards. That includes back-to-back 230+ yard performances against the Dolphins and Cowboys.
Dowdle played his college ball at South Carolina before being drafted by Dallas. He spent four seasons with the franchise largely in a reserve role.
Now, he’s getting his shot as a starter with the Panthers. He’s made the most of his opportunity.

Rico Dowdle scored in the second half of a win over Green Bay. He paid homage to Hingle McCringleberry after reaching paydirt.

Dowdle followed the two-pump rule. He was still flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct and fined more than $14K by the NFL.
“I definitely think you’re supposed to get two pumps,” he said after the game. The league disagreed.
The running back is not the first to be fined for the Key and Peele inspired celebration. Jamaal Williams got hit with a similar punishment for the same dance in 2022.
Dowdle has chosen to turn his NFL penalty in a fundraising opportunity. He has already matched the $14K total and more!
The tailback set up a GoFundMe to raise money for the Children’s Home Society of North Carolina. At the time of this writing, the page lists more than $16K in donations.
A goal has been set for $20,000, which seems more than attainable at this point. Hats off, Rico.
