Carolina rookie outside linebacker Nic Scourton will be off the field for quite some time after an issue he had during a joint practice with the Houston Texans last week.

Coach Dave Canales said Saturday that they first believed it was a heat-related issue on Thursday, but his health wasn’t getting any better, so they had him checked into the hospital.

It turns out Scourton suffered a collapsed lung during a joint practice against the Houston Texans on Thursday.

The Panthers’ head coach, Dave Canales, said Thursday that Scourton had left practice after he showed signs of overheating. Then, after Saturday’s game, Canales gave another update on the rookie pass-rusher and confirmed the lung injury.

“It was a very physical play,” Canales said.

“It was presenting like heat exhaustion because he was having trouble breathing, getting tired and all that. We kind of cooled him down. We couldn’t get him to respond good enough to where we felt comfortable about putting him back into practice … then, the symptoms kind of grew after practice, so we checked him into the hospital and that’s where they told us what was happening and the symptoms all say this is what it was.”

This is not the best news to have less than two weeks after Carolina Panthers’ cornerback Jaycee Horn was involved in a scary car accident.

The Carolina Panthers will need all hands on deck if they have plans to win the Super Bowl this year.

The Carolina Panthers last made the playoffs in 2017, but history suggests they are due for great things. It’s all due to the crazy phenomenon of the Ohio State Buckeyes coming off a National Championship victory, the Panthers opening the season against the Jaguars, and Jennifer Lopez getting divorced.

The previous two times saw the Panthers in the Super Bowl.

Carolina Panthers Rookie Nic Scourton Speaks Out After Injury

Scourton was diagnosed with a pneumothorax, commonly known as a collapsed lung, and was admitted for monitoring.

The second-round pick from Texas A&M may be down, but he is not out.

Scourton, the Panthers’ 51st overall pick in the 2025 NFL Draft, took to his Instagram story over the weekend to deliver a message.

“Minor setback, we good tho,” Nic Scourton wrote.
