Carolina Panthers express interest in two-time Pro Bowl defender

The Carolina Panthers haven’t reached the playoffs in seven seasons. Some might suggest they’ve hit rock bottom a few times over that span, such as last year when the defense allowed more points than any other unit in NFL history.

However, there’s a new sense of optimism brewing in Carolina after several more roster upgrades were made to both sides of the ball. Yet, the Panthers may not be done quite yet.

According to Joe Person of The Athletic, the Panthers have already expressed an interest in signing two-time Pro Bowl safety Justin Simmons. The Panthers have even reached out to Simmons’ representation about getting a contract done, but no signing is imminent at this time.

Still, it’s clear that the Panthers are considering more ways to ensure their defense avoids a similar fate as last season. Plus, the Panthers’ defensive coordinator Ejiro Evero, has a strong sense of familiarity with Simmons thanks to their time together on the Denver Broncos.

With Evero likely vouching for Simmons’ work ethic and locker room respect, the former Atlanta Falcons and Broncos defender could very well end up in Carolina before training camp kicks off in July.
