Carlton Davis injury update: Patriots CB suffers head injury vs. Texans

Celebrating a 28-16 win in snowy Foxborough, the New England Patriots managed to survive the slugfest that was their divisional round game against the Houston Texans. That said, they suffered multiple injuries along the way.

The most notable of the players to get shaken up might be Carlton Davis. The veteran cornerback, who helped set the tone with a pair of interceptions in the first half, was unable to finish the game because of a head injury.

Davis, 29, left the game in the fourth quarter. He first headed to the blue medical tent on the sideline and later made a trip into the Gillette Stadium bowels for further evaluation. The Patriots originally announced him as questionable to return before downgrading him to out with around two minutes remaining in the game.

New England’s fourth cornerback, Charles Woods, took over his role on defense.

Davis joined the Patriots on a three-year, $54 million free agency contract in March. Starting all 17 regular season contests as well as both postseason games so far, he is ranked second on the team with 1,041 combined defensive snaps. Along the way, he registered 76 tackles, 14 pass breakups and his two interceptions of Texans QB C.J. Stroud on Sunday.

His status for the upcoming AFC Championship Game against the Denver Broncos, however, is unclear. The Patriots will hold their first practice of the week on Wednesday.
