Who should the Arizona Cardinals pursue in free agency?
Happy Saturday one and all.
Hope you all are doing well, and enjoying the weekend.
The Arizona Cardinals and the rest of the NFL will be descending on Indianapolis soon, that will give us plenty of rumors and innuendos before free agency starts.
However, one thing we wanted to know before the mill starts working is, which free agents do you want to see the team pursue?
It starts with asking about the big three defenders from the Philadelphia Eagles, all of whom will likely make it to free agency here soon.
And there was an overwhelming favorite, and I am surprised and happy to see who won.
Sweat would give the Cardinals that top tier edge rusher, someone who had his best season under Jonathan Gannon and at a good price point still in his prime.
This was the right call, and the only reason I preferred Sweat to Milton Williams is because of price tag and snaps played.
While we will see how all of them do outside of the Philly defense, my concern with Williams is not how good he is or can be, it is that you are banking on a guy who has never been “the guy” on the Eagles defensive line, to come in and be the guy on your line. Moreover, you are doing that at $20+ million a year (per PFF’s best guess).
Again, if they do pursue and sign Williams, I will love it, but I do feel like Sweat gives you a little more in terms of snaps played, could be slightly cheaper (PFF has him at $18million) and it gives you a little more flexibility in the draft with an absolutely loaded DL class.
As for Zach Baun, I wouldn’t hate it, but man I would love to take the Philly approach of just cycling guys in and out every year and not over investing in the position.
Look forward to hearing your thoughts.
