Until recently, there were four quarterbacks among the unsigned members of the 2026 draft class. That is no longer the case.
Carson Beck has agreed to terms on his rookie contract with the Cardinals, NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport reports. The four-year deal is worth $7.4MM and allows Beck to participate in training camp. He will join a quarterback room filled with uncertainty given the current status of Jacoby Brissett.
It remains to be seen if Brissett – who is seeking a raise for 2026 reflective of his status as the team’s starter – will wind up reaching a resolution in the near future. Fellow veteran Gardner Minshew is also in the fold. As things stand, the free agent signing is in line to continue handling QB1 reps this summer.
Beck looms as a developmental option. Arizona’s QB outlook beyond 2026 is unclear, with Brissett and Minshew both set to reach the open market next spring. In any case, Beck will remain under team control for the foreseeable future as he looks to at least carve out a backup role at the NFL level. The possibility of a Brissett trade was raised shortly after the draft, but Beck’s presence does not appear to have increased the chances of such a move.
Expectations were high entering the 2024 campaign, Beck’s fifth at Georgia. Things did not go according to plan, though, and a transfer to Miami took place ahead of last season. During his lone campaign with the Hurricanes, Beck helped lead the team to the College Football Playoff final. His stock rose over the course of the pre-draft process, leading some to project a second-round selection in this case. In the end, Beck came off the board as the opening pick of the third round.
As an older prospect (25 in November), questions about Beck’s NFL ceiling will no doubt linger through his Arizona career. When he first receives the opportunity to see regular-season game action at the pro level will be interesting to see given where things stand with the Cardinals’ other passers. In any event, training camp reps and preseason snaps will no doubt be in store over the coming weeks.
