An international addition.
Hey, Who Dat Nation, my name is Sam Mackenzie, and I’m thrilled to be joining the team at Canal Street Chronicles as a contributing writer! Here’s a quick summary of who I am and why I’m here.
I’m a journalism student at Edinburgh Napier University here in the United Kingdom, covering a multitude of teams for the news publication ENRG Sport as part of my studies. I was born in Scotland and grew up here until I was nine years old before my dad’s job took me all the way to southeast Louisiana, where I spent the bulk of my teen years.
Hence, I grew up an avid Louisiana sports fan. Experiencing the Superdome, the Smoothie King Center, and - of course - Saturday nights in Death Valley on a regular basis was an integral part of my childhood. Over the years, I had the privilege of talking to star players across the state like Anthony Davis and Justin Jefferson, and witnessed some incredible moments in the flesh, but Game 4 of the Pelicans’ first-round sweep of the Trail Blazers will always be hard to top.
I eventually moved again, spending the last four years in California and Canada, before finally returning home to the UK last year. Nevertheless, I still consider New Orleans to be my second home and feel so connected to the city, particularly through the professional sports teams. I make my way back to visit Louisiana as often as I can, where a lot of my closest people, whom I consider family, still live.
Thus, taking this opportunity to join CSC was a no-brainer. I love this team and have read the website as a fan for as long as I can remember. I’ve got ambitious goals as a journalist and a deep, vested interest in all things New Orleans Saints. I’m determined to provide the best coverage I can from all the way across the pond and dive into discussions with all of you who make up this great community.
It’s an honor and a blessing to have the chance to cover this team for CSC, and I can’t wait for the 2025 season to get underway! Who Dat!
