The start of a new journey...
Hey, y’all! My name is Jason Watson Jr., and I am excited to introduce myself as the newest contributing writer for Canal Street Chronicles. I am looking forward to engaging with the New Orleans Saints fanbase as well as the CSC community. Here is a little background about me and how I’ve gotten here.
Ever since I was a young kid, I have always enjoyed reading and writing. It was just something that seemed to come naturally to me and because of it, I have won many awards and recognitions including two wide-reach contests put on by both the Saints and Pelicans. Then whether I was playing, watching, or simply discussing sports, they have always been a big part of my life. The field of sports journalism meshes two of my passions and I knew that is what I wanted to have as a career.
Once I graduated high school in 2020, I had aspirations of continuing my education at Louisiana State University after being accepted into the Ogden Honors college. However, I ultimately opted to attend Nicholls State University where I studied in the MACO (Mass Communications/Journalism) department. Due to circumstances beyond my control, I unfortunately never completed my journalistic degree, but have kept steady with my passion for writing and sports ever since.
Even with a degree in journalism, the industry is very cutthroat to get into. Not having met the requirements for many jobs? Even tougher.
In 2023, I was fortunate enough to have found a spot with DaBoot Sports as a volunteer writer covering LSU athletics where I am still an active writer for the page. While there, I have been exposed to so much and given opportunities I never would have thought possible. During this time, I also wrote for a short stint with The Kneaux, another New Orleans sports centralized publication.
Now, I am here starting a new venture with Canal Street Chronicles, a page I have kept up with for some time and cannot wait to get talking with y’all about football this season. I hope to share my love for the Saints with you all through these articles I write and am looking forward to the start of the journey. Who Dat!
