The Pittsburgh Steelers are 0-8 in road divisional games on Thursday nights since 1970. Under Tomlin, they are 9-11 overall on Thursdays.

After the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Cleveland Browns on Sunday, the team turned its focus to the Cincinnati Bengals. Pittsburgh will be on the road for a Thursday night matchup. The Steelers struggle under Mike Tomlin on Thursday nights. They also haven’t won a divisional matchup on a Thursday night road game since the merger.

The Steelers’ all-time record in road divisional matchups since 1970 is a whopping 0-8 on Thursday nights. Overall, they hold an underwhelming 14-21 record all-time on Thursday nights.

Under Tomlin, the woes only grow. Since 2007, Tomlin’s first season as head coach, the Steelers have been 9-11 on Thursday night football, including an abysmal 1-5 since 2019. The last time Pittsburgh won a road game on Thursday night was in 2007 against the St. Louis Rams.

The Steelers have a lot of history working against them when they travel to Cincinnati. They will also be facing a familiar foe at quarterback in Joe Flacco. The former Ravens quarterback started for the Browns this season before being benched and then traded to the Bengals.

Flacco will be looking to take advantage of his experience against the Steelers’ defense. Last season, in relief of an injured Anthony Richardson, Flacco stepped in to lead the Indianapolis Colts to a 27-24 victory in week four.

The scheduling is particularly brutal as the Steelers faced Cleveland on Sunday. AFC North games have an exceptional level of physicality and intensity. Pittsburgh will have to recover quickly to face another divisional opponent.

If Pittsburgh can come away with a victory on Thursday night, not only will they essentially break a historical trend, they will have a three game lead at 5-1. The Bengals currently stand in second place at 2-3, while the Ravens and Browns have a 1-5 record.
