Since their first matchup in 1936, the Pittsburgh Steelers are 1-12 all-time in Chicago against the Bears.

After the Pittsburgh Steelers defeated the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, they now turn their attention to the Chicago Bears. Not only are the Bears leading their division, but they also have a historical advantage at home against Pittsburgh. Since their first matchup in 1936, the Steelers are 1-12 in Chicago all-time.

Their lone win? 1995. In that game, the Steelers and Bears each committed five turnovers. However, their quarterbacks also had big plays through the air. Bears’ quarterback Erik Kramer threw three touchdowns while Steelers’ Neil O’Donnell threw for 341 yards.

The game came down to Norm Johnson’s game-winning kick in overtime. The Steelers won 37-34 and helped spark a run that resulted in a trip to Super Bowl XXX.

Since then, Pittsburgh has lost two consecutive one-possession games in the Windy City. Most recently, the Steelers lost in overtime 23-17 to a Mike Glennon-led Chicago squad. In fact, since the merger, all but one of their six matchups resulted in a one-possession final margin of victory.

The Steelers notably have the Bears’ longtime nemesis at quarterback in Aaron Rodgers. However, it is unclear if Rodgers will be able to play as he works through a fractured wrist. Despite his historical success against Chicago, he took time to praise the passionate fan base.

Pittsburgh needs as many wins as they can down the stretch. They are now only one game ahead of the Baltimore Ravens in the division. Can they get some of that magic from 30 years ago and do what has been historically near-impossible?
