Philip Rivers is set to play NFL football again, and it doesn’t appear he’s lost his cannon of an arm.
The eight-time Pro Bowler is 44 years old. That became the case just four days ago, when he celebrated his birthday. He probably didn’t imagine he’d open a new chapter involving pro football, yet here we are.
Rivers came out of retirement to rejoin the Indianapolis Colts following a season-ending injury to Daniel Jones. He wasted no time doling out the wisecracks, and he showed off some passing accuracy in training on Friday.
The video below shows the 44-year-old hitting his receivers while at practice. He isn’t exactly throwing the length of the field, but the man’s been away from the game for five years, goddamnit. Surely, we can pass it off as that.

News of Philip Rivers returning to the NFL at 44 came as a shock to many.
Former Carolina Panthers star Cam Newton felt other emotions. Safe to say, he’s unlikely to be moved by the video above.
“It’s almost like a slap in my face, bro. I’m not even gonna lie,” he said on his ‘4th & 1 with Cam Newton’ podcast on Thursday.
Co-host Omari Collins, A.K.A. “Peggy,” pointed out that he didn’t make himself available or let teams know he was interested in a workout.
“Did Philip Rivers send any type of signs that he was available!?” he shot back.
Newton went on to claim that he’s “no sucker” and “no lab rat” as he asked why some people are held to different standards. It’s worth noting that he’s also not retired.
“Why are you asking me to do something that everybody else didn’t do?” he inquired.
Peggy would suggest that Rivers played for the Colts before, so there was a connection.
“I don’t give a damn if he was in their family! He’s 44 years old, bro!” Cam replied.
He’s clearly not having it.
