The Tennessee Titans fell in their season opener to the Denver Broncos, 20-12. The matchup represented rookie quarterback Cam Ward’s NFL debut.

The No. 1 overall pick’s dad was not happy with his son’s supporting cast. He was “beside himself” watching teammates fail the signal caller.

The Titans and Broncos battled in a tightly contested game on Sunday. Tennessee held a second half lead despite being unable to find the endzone.

Cam Ward played well in his first start, even if the stat line doesn’t suggest it. He completed just 43% of his throws for a total of 112 yards. The offense left a lot of production on the on the field, though, due to self-inflicted wounds.

The Titans failed Cam Ward.

More specifically, the receiving corps.

Tennessee dropped four passes on the afternoon according to Pro Football Focus. There were a few other plays that could’ve been made but ultimately resulted in incomplete passes.

Ward’s play wasn’t perfect. He held onto the ball too long at times, leading to six sacks. He also turned the ball over with a fumble.

Still, he had the team in the game on the final drive in his first ever professional start. He played well enough to get a win. His teammates didn’t help him out.

Calvin Ward was going through it.

Cameras caught Cam Ward’s dad, Calvin, getting frustrated after a crucial drop by Calvin Ridley. The miscue came as Tennessee drove for a game-tying touchdown in the final minute of play.

It would’ve resulted in a 15-yard gain and a fresh set of downs. Instead, the ball fell harmlessly to the ground.

Calvin Ward was visibly peeved. He wanted to see his son lead a comeback effort in his debut. It didn’t happen, in part because of the multitude of dropped passes.

Cam Ward and the Titans will look to rebound in Week 2 against the Los Angeles Rams.
