The rookie QB will no doubt use this to get better.

Years ago, when Marcus Mariota was a rookie, he went through the entire Tennessee Titans training camp without throwing an interception. That seemed like a great thing at the time. “Look at how good the rookie is.” Well, it turned out that it probably meant that he wasn’t taking enough chances in practice.

Today, at Titans practice, Cam Ward threw a really ugly interception:

Now, don’t get me wrong, if he throws this same pick in week 1, it will be a problem, but for now, it is all part of being a rookie quarterback in his first training camp. Based on what we have seen and heard from Ward so far, he will use this play to make himself a better quarterback going forward.

I really can’t stand JJ Watt, but he had a really insightful post on Twitter earlier today:

Just keep all of that in mind when you see people from camp posting Ward’s numbers for the day. The numbers can give you a general idea of how his camp is going, but they shouldn’t be used to judge how Ward will perform when the games really matter.

The thing that matters now is for Brian Callahan to coach up Ward when he makes a mistake and for Ward to take that coaching and be better tomorrow.
