By all accounts, rookie quarterback Cam Ward has been nothing but impressive since the Tennessee Titans selected him with the No. 1 pick in the 2025 NFL Draft. But Ward seems to have made his first misstep in practice this week, and it was a big one.
Through two preseason games, Ward is 7-of-15 for 109 yards, with no touchdowns and no interceptions. Those aren’t exactly eye-popping numbers. But reports suggest that Ward has displayed remarkable leadership skills around the Titans’ facility, and he’s working on instilling confidence in the rest of the team.
For a quarterback, however, the most important tool you can have is good decision-making skills. You can have all the physical tools in the world, but if you don’t make good decisions, then none of it matters.
Most notable thing from Titans practice today: Cam Ward and Jeff Simmons getting physical

At Titans practice on Monday, Ward displayed some extremely questionable decision-making.
According to Titans beat writer Easton Freeze, Ward got into a scuffle with Tennessee defensive tackle Jeffrey Simmons following a redzone drill. Per Freeze, Ward taunted Simmons before shoving him in the back after throwing a touchdown.
Simmons, who stands at 6-foot-4 and 305 pounds, took exception, shoving Ward back and setting off a scuffle between the offense and the defense.
Now, I appreciate Ward’s bravado. In addition to good decision-making, NFL quarterbacks need confidence. It’s clear Ward doesn’t lack for that.
But if you’re going to pick a fight with someone, maybe don’t choose the man who is built like The Hulk.
“You never want to see your quarterback in the middle of those type of things,” Titans cornerback Jarvis Brownlee said afterward. “When it [does] happen, it just shows you the level of dog he’s got in him. He ain’t gonna take nothing.”
Thankfully, Ward and Simmons seem cool off the field, and things didn’t escalate. But the last things the Titans need is the future of their franchise getting injured because he tried to fight the wrong guy.
