Player Overview

Skattebo’s first two years in college were spent at Sacramento State, an FCS school in the Big Sky Conference. As a freshman, he averaged 9.12 yards per carry, and was named third-team All-Big Sky. During his sophomore season, he accumulated 1,382 yards and achieved either a first down or touchdown on over 40 percent of his carries, which was the best mark in the FCS in 2022.

He transferred to Arizona State as a junior, and was an immediate impact player in Tempe. His first season at ASU, he was a jack of all trades, taking 50 snaps at QB, over 350 as a RB, a couple at TE, over 100 as a WR, and several more on special teams. He was also the best punter on the team, punting 8 times for an average of over 42 yards per punt. As a running back, Skattebo had the third most (57) missed tackles in the FBS.

Skattebo’s senior year, which ended in a Heisman top 10 nomination, was his most spectacular. In 2024, he was the only FBS player with 1,000+ yards rushing and over 400 yards receiving, and he was the first FBS player to have over 1,500 yards rushing and 500 yards receiving since Christian McCaffrey in 2015. Skattebo finished third in the FBS in all-purpose yards per game, only behind Heisman finalist Ashton Jeanty, and UNC RB Omarion Hampton. He ended his season as the Peach Bowl MVP, despite being on the losing team, after putting up one of the most incredible college football performances in recent memory.

His bruising running style has attracted the attention of several NFL commentators, including Chad Ochocinco (formerly Johnson), who described his skillset as perfect for the ferocious AFC North:

“I’mma call him Skat Pack. I’mma call him Scam Cam Skat Pack. He nice. He’s a senior too, he coming out. Cam Skattebo, I know you probably gonna see this, I know you probably watching the show, listen, if you don’t see it, I know my son going to let you know.

“Boy, you the real deal boy! You hear me. You know where you belong? He run the ball like he belong in the NFL, he’s supposed to play for the Ravens or the Browns,” Johnson said.
