A post-surgery update on fan-favorite New York Giants rookie Cam Skattebo has revealed his gruesome Week 8 injury was far worse than originally thought.

Giants fans have had little to be excited about with their 2-6 team. However, while they are headed toward another ugly losing season, they have been given reason for long-term hope from rookies Jaxson Dart and Cam Skattebo. They helped to make the New York offense one deserving of respect again.

But in what continues to be a nightmare year, the rookie running back incurred a horrifying ankle dislocation during the first half of their Sunday blowout loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Well, it seems the RB suffered much more than a dislocated ankle.

Skattebo not only dislocated his ankle, but also has a fibula fracture and a deltoid ligament rupture, according to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport.

Will Cam Skattebo be ready for the start of 2026 New York Giants season?

A severe ankle disclocation, which Skattebo seems to have, could sometimes take more than six months to recover from. However, he also has serious injuries to his fibula and deltoid ligament. That seems like a trio of ailments that could make being ready for the start of the 2026 season far from a guarantee for the youngster.

Yet, according to Rapoport, the surgery this week was a success, and the Giants expect Cam Skattebo to be back on the field “for the offseason program” next spring. That is good news that the organization badly needed.

However, when Skattebo does return to action, chances are it will be with a new head coach and possibly a different general manager. Heading into 2025, coach Brian Daboll and GM Joe Schoen were on very hot seats after a pair of losing years. With Skattebo and Malik Nabers both suffering season-ending injuries, along with a rookie QB, there is no reason to expect a big finish to this season.

Meaning there is a very good chance both will be ousted during or soon after this season.
