A video of former NFL quarterback Cam Newton giving it straight up to a group of high school football players has resurfaced online this weekend.
Newton, who has not retired from the NFL, last played in 2022 after returning for a stint with the Carolina Panthers.
He is one of the more outspoken figures in the football community and has a passion for youth, having set up several avenues to help kids develop their game.
The former Heisman winner had some brash advice for a bunch of high schoolers back in 2023, telling them they were “stupid” if they believed Kirby Smart or Nick Saban needed them while speaking to them about picking a college.
“Half of y’all going to schools that don’t even offer you,” he said. “If you’re good, don’t matter where you go, they gonna find you.”
Check him out in the video below:
While some folks were on board with what Newton said, others couldn’t take him seriously because of what he was wearing at the time.
“Agree,” a user wrote in the comments.
“Case in point for BGSU last year,” another said.
“No matter how serious they sound, I don’t think I could take someone seriously that dressed up like that for a speech/presentation in front of me. Disney Princess Cam,” someone else declared.
“Is he wearing a f**king bow on his head?” another user asked.
Well… the man has quite the wardrobe, but he also spews some real wisdom.
