Pittsburgh Steelers defensive captain joined the Rich Eisen show Wednesday and revealed his thoughts on the Jalen Ramsey trade.
In late June, the Pittsburgh Steelers made waves across the NFL world by trading for Jalen Ramsey and Jonnu Smith. Within moments, they sent more waves when it was revealed Minkah Fitzpatrick was dealt to Miami in the trade. Defensive captain Cam Heyward joined the Rich Eisen show and provided his thoughts on the transaction.
“The way it came out, I thought we were bringing Jalen [Ramsey] in for just a pick,” Heyward told the Rich Eisen show. “I was like ‘Oh hell yeah! I love this!’”
Heyward’s reaction was very much how most Steelers fans reacted. He then reacted likely the same way most Steelers fans did once the details unfolded.
“Then I found out it’s a trade for, with Minkah [Fitzpatrick]. I’m like ‘Damn, you’re taking away a guy that has really meant a lot to our group,” Heyward said once he found out the terms of the trade. “I was a little bummed about it.”
Though the defensive captain saw one of his guys depart, it didn’t stop him from still being excited about the acquisition of Ramsey.
“There’s no short of talent there. Jalen is a ballhawking DB that can play corner, he can play slot, he can play safety,” Heyward said of Ramsey’s abilities. “His versatility makes him very, very great in our defense.”
Heyward mentioned watching the battles between Ramsey and DK Metcalf over the years. He also made it clear he isn’t worried about Ramsey’s rumored attitude in the locker room.
“What makes up the team is different personalities … Talking to Jalen so far, Jalen just wants to play ball.” He said of Ramsey’s mindset with the Steelers.
One thing that is clear about the trade is that though the locker room will miss their guy leaving, they are excited for what Ramsey brings to the locker room. Straight from the captain himself.
