To say the least, not everyone in Steelers Nation is happy about the Aaron Rodgers signing. One fan even went to great measures of burning his autographed Minkah Fitzpatrick jersey after the news broke on Thursday afternoon that the four-time league MVP is coming to the Steel City.
“Today, June 5, 2025, I’ll never be a Steelers fan again,” the fan said in a TikTok video. “Autographed Minkah jersey. I’m burning all of my Steelers stuff. You decide to pickup Aaron Rodgers. I can’t do this anymore. You kill us, you keep killing us. You let go of George Pickens. You let go of Justin Fields, he had the potential to be something. It’s crazy, it’s sad. Again today, my last day of being a Steelers fan. Thank you Rooneys, thank you (Mike) Tomlin. You really did it. Bye bye.”
Steelers All-Pro defensive tackle Cam Heyward caught wind of the video that went viral on social media, and he had a few thoughts. First, why is he burning an autographed Minkah Fitzpatrick jersey? He has nothing to do with the Rodgers signing.
“Thoughts, first off why Minkah’s jersey? That’s bonkers. Second, why burn when there plenty people that need clothes? Third, you are going to regret it!!”

Sure, Rodgers is a polarizing figure. He says some controversial things that rub people the wrong way. He’s also known to be a diva. But, he’s never done anything criminally to create such outrage. Burning a jersey because of the signing makes zero sense.
Despite narratives that Rodgers is washed, it’s hard to dispute that he’s not the best quarterback the Steelers have had since Ben Roethlisberger retired after the 2021 season. Rodgers is 41 years old, so he’s not as mobile as he once was, but he still has a cannon of an arm.
Since 2022, Rodgers has 54 passing touchdowns. In that same time frame, the Steelers have had only 46 touchdown passes. Rodgers also had only one pass attempt in 2023 before suffering a season-ending Achilles injury.
Rodgers could probably get the Steelers to 9-10 wins and a playoff berth, but a Super Bowl run seems very unlikely. It will be interesting to see how his tenure in Pittsburgh unfolds. As mentioned, he can ruffle feathers with his opinions — football-related or outside of the game — he’s certainly not afraid to speak his mind.
I’m sure there will be some kind of drama with Rodgers this season. That has been the case wherever he plays. But the Steelers have signed players with more significant baggage in the past. That’s why outrage over the Rodgers signing is nonsense. He gives the Steelers the best chance to win now, but don’t expect a Super Bowl run.
