Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Calvin Austin III revealed one of his new teammates defended him after suffering his Week 4 injury.

Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Calvin Austin III exited the team’s Week 4 win with a shoulder injury, and it turns out some Minnesota Vikings had some things to say as he left the field.

However, Austin revealed that his new teammate and fellow wide receiver DK Metcalf had no problem defending him.

“DK is just such a great teammate,” Austin said. “I asked him after the game because I know when I went down, I was walking off and I saw a little scuffle, they were getting into it, and I asked DK what it was. He was like, somebody had said something about me when I was on the ground, but that’s just a small example.”

Metcalf has already proven to be worth every penny the Steelers paid to acquire him this offseason with 15 catches for 261 yards and three touchdowns through the first four games of the season.

In March, Pittsburgh sent a second-round pick in the 2025 NFL Draft to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for Metcalf and then gave him a five-year, $150 million contract extension.

Metcalf’s character on and off the field has only further supported that it was a great move by the Steelers, too.

Austin also revealed Metcalf’s presence in the wide receiver room has made the group better and tighter.

“When you’re as close as we are in the receiver room,” Austin continued. “Like we want to play for each other, we’re happy when each other succeed, so having DK on our team has been really good for us.”

It’s unclear how long Austin will be sidelined with his injury, but Metcalf and Co. will do their best to help fill his void.

A second-round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft out of Ole Miss, Metcalf has 453 receptions for 6,585 yards and 51 touchdowns in his professional career.
