Caleb Williams did not want to play for the Chicago Bears prior to the legendary franchise selecting him with the top pick in the 2024 NFL Draft. But now, Williams is all-in on the Bears’ organization. At least, that’s what he says.

Williams, whose leadership or lack thereof has come under fire since his days at USC, reportedly discussed forcing his way to another team prior to the dream. Many of his concerns surrounded former Bears offensive coordinator Shane Waldron; concerns which were later validated to some degree, especially after Waldron was fired just nine games into his first season in Chicago.

Caleb Williams Now Says That He Always Wanted To Play For The Chicago Bears

With Waldron out of the equation and offensive whiz kid Ben Johnson now serving as the team’s head coach, Williams says he’s all the way in.

“I wanted to come here and be the guy and be a part and be a reason why the Chicago Bears turn this thing around,” Williams said on Wednesday. “That last thing that was said in all of that, I think, is the most important thing: I wanted to be here. I love being here.”

Williams went on to say that much of the hubbub was due to his father, Carl. However, he says that his father doesn’t dictate the way he lives his life.

“Actually, I shut my dad down quite a bit,” Caleb Williams said. “He has ideas and he’s a smart man and so I listen, I always listen. I’m very fortunate to be in this position in the sense of playing quarterback but also very fortunate to have a very strong-minded father. We talk very often, my mom and my dad are my best friends, so being able to have conversations with them to understand that everything they say is also portrayed on me.”

Ultimately, whether Caleb Williams wants to be in Chicago or not is irrelevant. He’s there now. And if he plays well under Johnson, he isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. If he doesn’t, Bears fans won’t mind seeing him go. The only thing that the speculation serves to do is put more pressure on the young signal caller.
