He did it again.
For the fourth time this season, Caleb Williams brought the Chicago Bears back to win a football game.
In what looked like a sure Bears loss, where the defense was bad most of the day, the drops were horrendous, the special teams weren’t very special, and Ben Johnson’s game plan was questionable, Caleb would not be denied in the final 10:19 of the game.
“I can feel my body settle down,” Williams said in his postgame press conference about his late-game mentality. “That’s important for me when I’m out there in those moments, but the calmness, the demeanor when I’m in the huddle, looking at those guys in the eyes. The belief, the faith, like I said, living in the known in those moments, it provides a certain level of confidence for us to be able to go out there and deliver.”
In the fourth quarter, with the New York Giants winning 20 to 10, Williams was 5 of 10 passing for 77 yards, one passing touchdown, and a passer rating of 109.2. He added 52 yards rushing on four attempts (plus the victory formation kneeldown) and a rushing score under two minutes to give them the lead.
Chicago’s quarterback did what a franchise quarterback is supposed to do, and the Bears are (6-3).
