The Buffalo Bills concluded their training camp at St. John Fisher University Thursday, and next up is the team’s preseason opener against the New York Giants Saturday afternoon at Highmark Stadium. On the final day of training camp, head coach Sean McDermott revealed how the team will handle playing time for its starters in the lone home preseason game.
Today’s edition of Buffalo Rumblinks leads off with McDermott’s comments on how much action reigning NFL MVP Josh Allen ad the rest of Buffalo’s starters will see when Buffalo hosts the Giants.
Breathe easy, Bills fans. Josh Allen, Buffalo’s dual-threat quarterback, is being held out of Saturday’s home preseason contest vs. the Giants, and Mitch Trubisky will get the start as the veteran looks to make a statement and hold off Mike White for the backup quarterback job.
McDermott also said that both Buffalo’s offensive and defensive starters will play one quarter, “give or take,” against the Giants, and that the team is going to exercise caution with its laundry list of injured players.
Among the key takeaways from Wednesday’s session: Rookie cornerback Dorian Strong continues to enjoy a solid training camp; starting right tackle Spencer Brown returned to the practice field for the first time since injuring his back in the spring; tight end Dalton Kincaid came d0wn with a few big catches; quarterback Josh Allen had a field day leading the offense to several touchdowns; and right guard O’Cyrus Torrence struggled vs. defensive tackles Ed Oliver and DaQuan Jones.
