Crossing Broad
From postgame:
Here’s the play itself:
Jalen Carter plays a physical game and a mean game. Not sure if it’s “dirty” in a Derek Barnett sense, which would insinuate that he’s taking cheap shots or late shots, but only he knows for sure. I guess fans of the other 31 NFL teams have their minds made up.
They’ll point to the Dak spitting incident, which was scummy. And there was the hand to the facemask of Patrick Mahomes in the Super Bowl and the racing incident stemming from his college days at UGA, so there are a couple of high-profile, big-stage NFL sequences to go along with the lingering cloud that was already hanging over him on draft night.
The one thing we do know is that Carter loves that club and swim move. He uses it all the time and it shows up frequently on the tape. He’ll take a jab step left, jab step right, then rip with the left hand and climb past the blocker. He actually does it both ways, right/left/right as well, so sometimes he’s clubbing with the left hand and sometimes with the right hand, to the side of the helmet or shoulder pad. Spencer Brown is humongous, 6’8″ actually, and so it’s plausible that Carter was just reaching against a taller guy and accidentally got him inside the helmet.
Carter is the only one who can answer the “dirty” question, but if you’re giving him the benefit of the doubt, that’s what you’d base it on, the frequency of that club and swim move.
