Buffalo Bills wide receiver Keon Coleman gave fans a laugh this week after a strange off-field moment went viral. Coleman reportedly accidentally locked himself inside his dog’s cage with his pitbull, a dog he is said to have bought for nearly $50,000. The unusual story was loved many.

He is always been known a dog lover because earlier in 2025, Coleman was seen spending time with rescue puppies ahead of Puppy Bowl XXI, showing his love for dogs.

But though his love for dogs is immense, the situation in his career is not that good. Coleman has been sidelined as the Bills push toward the playoffs. Fans have already criticized Buffalo’s wide receiver group, and the story popped up during another week where Coleman did not suit up.

Coleman entered the NFL with plenty of hype after Buffalo selected him early in the second round of the 2024 draft. He showed flashes as a rookie, finishing with over 550 receiving yards and averaging 19.2 yards per catch. Expectations were high for a second-year breakout, but that progress has not happened yet.

Coleman Career At A Crossroads In Buffalo

Coleman has played in only 12 games this season. Coaches made him a healthy scratch six times, and he has missed the last two weeks completely. He has not topped 20 receiving yards in a game since Week 12. Those stats tell the story clearly.

Buffalo has leaned on veterans instead. The Bills have given snaps to Brandin Cooks, who joined the team just weeks ago. They have also played Gabe Davis ahead of Coleman. Those choices surprised some around the league and suggest the coaching staff, and possibly Josh Allen, do not fully trust him right now.

The Bills entered the 2025 season hoping Coleman would help lead the wide receiver group. That plan did not work out. Khalil Shakir now looks like the only sure piece going forward. Team insiders expect big changes at receiver in 2026.

Coleman is still just 22 years old, but age alone no longer buys him much time. He does not contribute on special teams and struggles to make the game-day roster, even when the team needs help at receiver. Around the league, many believe the Bills would get only a late-round pick if they tried to trade him.

For now, Coleman is making headlines for the wrong reasons. The dog cage story brought laughs. His future in Buffalo brings real concern.
