After a victory in the United Bowl that saw him secure a UFL championship, Ian Wheeler is headed back to the NFL. The Louisville Kings running back has signed a one-year deal with the Buffalo Bills, per a release by the team. Wheeler showcased his talent in the United Bowl, rushing for 81 yards and a touchdown on 10 carries. His lone 44-yard touchdown to start the fourth quarter gave the Kings the spark needed to win the championship game.
Wheeler is signing with the Bills, marking his return to the NFL following his ACL injury. A former Howard University standout, Wheeler signed with the Chicago Bears as an undrafted free agent after completing his college career. He impressed during the 2024 preseason and appeared to be building momentum before a torn ACL cut his rookie campaign short.
Following his rehabilitation, the Bears released Wheeler with an injury settlement in September 2025. He later spent a brief stint on the New Orleans Saints practice squad in November before being released, forcing him to continue his pursuit of a professional football opportunity elsewhere. But his time in the UFL proved to be the catalyst needed to showcase his skills as a professional player, and he signed with the Louisville Kings in February. He had several key moments in the UFL playoffs, including a game-clinching touchdown against the Saint Louis Battle Hawks to earn a trip to the United Bowl.
Now heโs inked a one-year deal with a Buffalo Bills team that looks to find itself in contention for the Super Bowl in the 2026 season.
