Buffalo Rumblings
The Buffalo Bills are signing veteran wide receiver Mecole Hardman to the team’s 17-man practice squad, per a report by Jeremy Fowler crediting an anonymous source late on Tuesday, November 10. Hardman is a player most of Bills Mafia will remember thanks to his pair of stints playing for the Kansas City Chiefs.
It’s interesting news, even if it’s only that Hardman will join the practice squad at this point. He fits the current profile of several other Bills receivers such as Khalil Shakir, Curtis Samuel, and Elijah Moore. Where Hardman may also fit in is at return specialist, which has been a roster spot in turmoil with cornerback Brandon Codrington a recent healthy scratch despite having won that role in 2024.
Hardman, now 27, is a six-year NFL veteran whose biggest impact has come as a member of the Chiefs. In six seasons with Kansas City between 2019 and 2024, Hardman made 177 receptions (255 targets) for 2,296 yards and 16 touchdowns; as a rusher, Hardman added 26 carries for 190 yards and three touchdowns, per Pro Football Reference.
As a return specialist with the Chiefs, Hardman made 89 punt returns for 819 yards and one touchdowns, with a long return of 67 yards; adding 45 kick returns for 1,073 yards and one touchdown return — that went for 104 yards.
A free agent entering the 2023 NFL season, Hardman signed with the New York Jets — a stop that lasted just five games and accounted for just one reception and six yards. Hardman then re-joined Kansas City, where he remained through the 2024 NFL season. A member of each Chiefs Super Bowl roster since 2019, Hardman has three Championship rings.
Hardman had most recently spent time with the Green Bay Packers. He was released at final roster cut downs this past summer, then joined the practice squad where he remained until his release.
