Now that the Miami Dolphins fired Mike McDaniel, the 2026 NFL head coaching cycle is set to feature eight teams hiring new leaders. Could the Buffalo Bills and/or Green Bay Packers soon expand the list from 8 to 9 or even 10 teams looking for a new head coach?
It’s hard to fathom a team still in the playoffs considering a coaching change, yet many didn’t think the Baltimore Ravens would move on from likely future Hall of Famer John Harbaugh either. The same could be said about the Dolphins, who didn’t fire McDaniel until news of Harbaugh becoming available broke.
Were the Dolphins waiting on Harbaugh to fire McDaniel? Could the Bills and/or Packers have Harbaugh in mind too?
That’s the latest speculation from Mike Florio of Pro Football Talk, who suggests that the Bills and/or Packers could be fed up with coming close, but not securing a Super Bowl victory despite their talented roster makeup.

Buffalo’s Sean McDermott and Green Bay’s Matt LaFleur lead some of the most consistent teams in football, year in, year out. Would they really be willing to move on after another playoff loss? After all, several teams would love to be in those coaches’ shoes, yet the NFL is all about winning Super Bowls, and neither coach has gotten the job done, as of late.
Of course, McDermott has never won a Super Bowl as a head coach, and the pressure has only increased since the emergence of MVP QB Josh Allen. Meanwhile, the Packers are trying to assemble a Super Bowl roster, and they’ve clearly been willing to make bold moves to do so. Could their next plan involve Harbaugh?
