The Buffalo Bills have made no secret of their desire to finally get over the hump and bring a Super Bowl to Western New York.

After years of near misses and playoff heartbreaks, the franchise appears ready to push all its chips to the center of the table. With the AFC race tightening, one bold move could define the 2025 season- and the Bills might already have their sights set on a game-changing target.

Speculation heated up this week after DraftKings floated a blockbuster trade proposal that would send Pittsburgh Steelers star T.J. Watt to Buffalo. The hypothetical deal suggests the Bills could part with a 2026 first-round pick, a 2027 second-rounder, rising pass rusher Greg Rousseau, and linebacker Dorian Williams.

If the deal ever materializes, it would instantly elevate Buffalo’s defense and signal an all-in push toward a Super Bowl run.

T.J. Watt Could Shift The AFC Balance

T.J. Watt isn’t just another edge rusher. He’s a former Defensive Player of the Year and one of the league’s most disruptive forces when healthy. Even during a “down year” in 2024, he notched 11.5 sacks, more than any Bills defender managed last season. After struggling to consistently pressure opposing quarterbacks, the Bills could use someone of Watt’s caliber to change the equation.

Buffalo’s front office hasn’t stopped investing in its pass rush. They handed Von Miller a massive contract in 2022 and recently brought in Joey Bosa, though injuries continue to follow both veterans. Rousseau has emerged as the team’s top edge presence, which makes the idea of trading him notable. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Bills signed Rousseau to a four-year, $80 million extension this offseason, including $54 million guaranteed.

Still, the team faces urgency. With quarterback Josh Allen in his prime and the AFC stacked with elite competition, the Bills may feel now is the time to swing big. Watt would immediately shift expectations and give Buffalo a ferocious tandem alongside Bosa, provided both stay on the field.

If the price for Watt proves too steep, the team could take a more measured approach. Sports Illustrated’s Gilberto Manzano pointed to veteran edge rusher Za’Darius Smith as a potential fit. Smith, now 33, showed he can still contribute after stepping up for the Lions last season. His experience and ability to rotate in key situations could bolster Buffalo’s depth without gutting the roster.

Either way, the Buffalo Bills are clearly exploring ways to boost their defense. Whether it’s a blockbuster trade or a savvy free agent pickup, Buffalo is hunting for a title, and nothing is off the table.
