Is the second-year pro a lock for the backup center gig?

The Buffalo Bills and general manager Brandon Beane have built an enviable stable of depth along their offensive line. The Bills have a strong group of five starters who return from last season, and they even have nearly all of their reserves returning, as well.

The easy way out in making the 53-man roster, then, would be to hit copy-paste from last season and make a squad for 2025. However, thanks to additions elsewhere, the Bills may have some decisions among the reserve ranks up front.

In today’s edition of “90 players in 90 days,” we discuss a second-year offensive lineman looking to retain his position on the 53-man roster.

Name: Sedrick Van Pran-Granger
Number: 62
Position: C/G
Height/Weight: 6’4”, 310 pounds
Age: 23 (24 on 10/23/2025)
Experience/Draft: 2; selected by the Bills in the fifth round (No. 141 overall) of the 2024 NFL Draft
College: Georgia
Acquired: Fifth-round draft choice

Financial situation (per Spotrac): Van Pran-Granger enters the second year of his four-year rookie contract, which is worth $4,375,242 overall. For the 2025 season, Van Pran-Granger’s cap hit is $1,048,813 if he makes the 53-man roster. If he’s released, Buffalo will carry a dead-cap charge of $266,439 for the year.

2024 Recap: Van Pran-Granger was a healthy scratch for Buffalo’s Week 1 victory over the Arizona Cardinals, but he appeared in Buffalo’s 16 other regular-season games. He played sparingly, mostly finding time on special teams. He played on offense in blowouts, totaling 53 offensive snaps through his first 15 career games. In the Bills’ regular-season finale, he started at center and played every snap on offense.

He was active for Buffalo’s blowout victory over the Denver Broncos in the Super Wild Card Round of the playoffs, appearing on five offensive snaps and five special teams snaps. He was a healthy scratch in Buffalo’s subsequent two playoff matchups.

Positional outlook: Van Pran-Granger is one of three true centers on the roster, and that’s not counting the man the Bills start at center, Connor McGovern. Jacob Bayer and Kendrick Green are the other centers on the roster. The interior offensive linemen include Alec Anderson, who’s listed as a tackle, David Edwards, O’Cyrus Torrence, Rush Reimer, and Mike Edwards.

2025 Offseason: Van Pran-Granger is on the Physically Unable to Perform (PUP) list thanks to a calf injury to begin training camp.

2025 Season outlook: If he’s healthy, Van Pran-Granger has a leg up on the competition as it relates to becoming the backup center. The Bills invested in him via a draft choice last season, and he saw action in games when the team could give him reps to hasten his development.

However, Kendrick Green is a solid veteran who has multiple starts (19) under his belt, and he’s still young at just 26 years old. If SVPG misses a lot of time and Green does well in his opportunity, there’s a chance that he could overtake the second-year man...
