Buffalo Bills writers give their predictions for the game on Sunday against the Chiefs.
The Buffalo Bills and Kansas City Chiefs face off on Sunday night in the AFC Championship Game. It’s the fourth time in five years the two teams have played in the postseason and Kansas City is 3-0 in those games.
In the regular season, the Bills hold the advantage, though. Both teams are expected to bring their A game on Sunday, so what do Buffalo Bills fans and writers from Buffalo Rumblings think is going to happen? Here is their analysis:
There’s a reason no back-to-back Super Bowl winner has ever returned to the Big Game to try and win a third. Teams play better when they are desperate. It’s why the Rams were able to knock off the Bills in December. Hungry dogs eat.
The Bills enter this game with a deep ache in their bellies, and I am not going to count them out this time.
You can understand the Chiefs being a little content and a little nonchalant coming into this game with all they have accomplished. Legacies are written for Travis Kelce and Andy Reid and Patrick Mahomes already has a better Hall of Fame resume than Kurt Warner. They don’t need this game.
You know who needs this game, fair or not? Josh Allen and Sean McDermott. Allen’s stats are better than Mahomes in their playoff meetings, but some of the folks around the All-World quarterback have let him down, most notably McDermott. So Allen is going to play at a new level, and McDermott has shown he can adapt and improve. It’s time for the flowers of that growth. Perhaps more importantly, I think the guys around them are going to play better for them.
I’m picking the Bills because the Chiefs offense is just not good enough and the Bills defense has played better and better as the season has gone on. They are ready. It’s time.
Matt’s pick: Bills 30, Chiefs 28
The Bills have been waiting for four years to change the results of the AFC Championship when these two teams faces off in Kansas City which you can argue kick started the Chiefs dynasty. Things are a lot different from then. Compared to the AFC Championship game in 2020, there are only nine Bills that appeared in the box score that are still on team.
While the Chiefs have been dominating the league and getting their back-to-back Super Bowl wins, Brandon Beane and Sean McDermott have been searching for ways to finally get over the hump. Perhaps this year, with an offense McDermott has been looking for since he started in Buffalo, will be the ticket to a Super Bowl appearance. This team does not have to rely on Josh Allen hurdling Chiefs defenders this time around. He does not need to constantly make plays to avoid a free rusher because the Buffalo Bills are finally a smashmouth football team....
