Buffalo Bills kicker Tyler Bass has been dealing with pelvic soreness throughout the month of August. The Bills had another kicker in camp — Caden Davis was with them from August 9th through the 20th — but Bass kicked in the preseason finale and we hoped he was back for good.
But then Bass popped up on the first injury report of the regular season, and now the Bills have added a kicker to their practice squad. Bass was listed as a limited participant on Wednesday ahead of the team’s opener against the Baltimore Ravens.
Buffalo has now signed veteran Matt Prater to their practice squad. Prater is one of the older players in the NFL, having just turned 41. He kicked for the Cardinals for the last four seasons, but tore his meniscus in Week 5 of last season. He wasn’t on an NFL roster since the season ended.
Prater was 6-of-6 in 2024 with a long of 57 yards and he made all ten extra point attempts.
Of course, Buffalo could always turn to running back Ray Davis, who booted a field goal in the team’s preseason opener in place of Bass.
The corresponding practice squad move was to sign Sam Franklin Jr to the active roster. Dewayne Carter was placed on injured reserve.
