Buffalo Rumblings
The Buffalo Bills have made changes and tweaks to their wide receiver group since last season. While they made some major moves, they’ve also done work on the fringes, adding and subtracting players who will battle for various roles without the glitz and glamor associated with household names.
Some of those players Buffalo has added are already gone, too, their time with the team limited to pieces like the one you’re reading now. Just a few weeks ago, we were talking about whether Deven Thompkins had a chance to make the Bills’ roster as a return specialist. After his release on July 14, we know that isn’t going to happen unless the Bills bring him back again later in the summer.
In today’s edition of “91 players in 91 days,” we discuss the man Buffalo acquired that led to Thompkins’ release.

Financial situation (per Spotrac): Skinner enters the second year of the rookie free agent deal he signed last spring with the Jets. If he makes Buffalo’s 53-man roster, he carries a cap hit of $885,000 for the season. Buffalo would not have any dead cap charge if they were to release Skinner.
2025 Recap: Skinner finished up his college career with the Jayhawks by doing what he did best: making explosive plays in the passing game. He averaged 19.8 yards per catch across three seasons with Kansas, totaling 80 receptions for 1,584 yards and 11 touchdowns in 38 games where he actually appeared on offense. He did not receive an invite to the 2025 NFL Scouting Combine, but he participated in Kansas’ Pro Day. He ran the forty-yard dash in 4.51 seconds, completed the three-cone drill in 6.94 seconds, ran the twenty-yard shuttle in 4.34 seconds, and leapt 33” in the vertical jump and 10’2” in the broad jump. He went undrafted in the 2025 NFL Draft, signing with the New York Jets after the selection meeting concluded. He played in all three of Gang Green’s preseaosn games, catching eight passes for 114 yards and a score on ten targets. While he played well in the exhibition season, he did not make the final roster, as the Jets released him on August 26 as part of final roster cuts. They signed him to the practice squad the following day. Skinner made his NFL debut in the regular season finale against Buffalo, and while he officially caught one pass for ten yards, he also converted a two-point try in the fourth quarter after the Jets’ lone touchdown in a 35-8 loss. Therefore, Skinner can be the answer to a trivia question, as well, as he was officially the last player to score in Buffalo’s old home.
