Tamps Bay Buccaneers rookie linebacker Josiah Trotter grew up idolizing four-time NFL MVP quarterback Aaron Rodgers. In Week 6, he’ll get the chance to face Rodgers when the Steelers and Bucs square off in Tampa Bay.
Trotter went as far as predicting an interception on Rodgers. He hopes the future Hall of Famer will sign the ball and swap jerseys after the game.
“I actually have a picture with him when I went to an Eagles game,” Trotter recently told James Hill of MrBucsNation. “And I remember the time I saw him, my mom called him over, tried to get his attention, I got a picture with him. I still have it on my phone.
“I grew up loving A-Rod and his celebration… After that game, I’m gonna have to at least try and ask him, if he says no, he says no, I’ve gotta try and see if I can get a jersey. I’m gonna speak it into existence, but when I get that interception, see if I can get that ball signed, too.”
Rodgers kept his promise and autographed the two interception balls from former Steelers cornerback Beanie Bishop after the 2024 meeting between the Steelers and New York Jets. Bishop revealed that he made sure to thank Rodgers for his kind gesture.
“I was like, ‘Thanks bro for signing those balls.’ It meant a lot just being a fan of the game,” Bishop said. “Being a competitor and growing up and watching football and things like that, it’s one of those guys that you watch as a kid.”
Bishop was considered a weakness heading into last year’s Steelers-Jets game. Many thought Aaron Rodgers would pick the rookie apart, but it was the opposite. Bishop became the first undrafted rookie in NFL history to have a multi-INT game against a multi-time former MVP QB, per OptaSTATs.
Bishop was nominated for Pepsi Zero Sugar Rookie of the Week for his standout performance. In addition to the two interceptions, Bishop had six tackles and one tackle for loss in the Steelers’ 37-15 win over the Jets.
Only time will tell if Josiah Trotter pull off a Beanie Bishop-like performance against Rodgers in Week 6.
