It’s well-documented the Patriots heavily pursued Chris Godwin this offseason, but the facts and figures have been open to interpretation.

Well, until now as Godwin himself revealed what New England was willing to pay.

Godwin told The Athletic’s Dan Pompei the Patriots offered an average of $30 million per year on a multi-year deal. However, as Pompei writes, the feeling between Godwin and his team was there was “more juice to be squeezed there,” if the veteran wideout wanted to drive a hard bargain.

Godwin ultimately re-signed with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on a three-year, $66 million deal — an average of $22 million per season. Godwin’s agent, Tory Dandy, reportedly referred to the difference in offers as “generational money.”

The Buccaneers, Patriots and Steelers were at the forefront of those competing for Godwin. But the eight-year veteran ultimately decided he didn’t want his family to have to leave Tampa Bay.
