Newly acquired WR Diontae Johnson said who he thinks will be the starter on a recent podcast

The Cleveland Browns have been rotating quarterbacks in and out with the first-team unit throughout the spring, but Diontae Johnson recently predicted who he believes will get the first chance to be the day one starter in 2025.

In a recent interview on the “Sports and Suits Podcast” with Stephen Garcia, Johnson discussed the team’s quarterback situation and his opinion on it:

“I think they are going to roll with Kenny (Pickett) for right now,” Johnson said.

“I’ve been seeing Kenny going like right now with the ones. Then Joe (Flacco) will come in,” Johnson said. “I think they are probably going to roll with him just to see like he’s coming off a season with Philly and having a Super Bowl. So, I think they are going to stick with him through the preseason. Then you know they can live with Joe and what he brings to the table.”

Though nothing is ever set in stone when it comes to what players, or even coaches say before the season, this is a fairly big piece of information.

Despite the majority of people suggesting that Joe Flacco or Shedeur Sanders has the “lead” when it comes to the starting job this season, Kenny Pickett has been the one getting the majority of first-team reps and coming out with the starting unit in practice.

Yes, the team could be attempting to drive up Pickett’s value so they could facilitate a trade later on this summer, but it would be odd to take those developmental reps away from the two rookies right now.
