Dawgs By Nature
The rubber match against the Pittsburgh Steelers is an opportunity. A chance to right a lot of the wrongs that occurred this year.
RELATED: BROWNS VS. STEELERS FINAL SCORE
Pittsburgh clobbered the Cleveland Browns in Week 6, 23-9, back in mid-October. No self-respecting Browns fan wants to lose two games in a season to their hated division rivals. No, sir.
To the players, they are playing for their future jobs. That is whether it is with Cleveland next year, or another NFL club. They must close out the year on a high note and gather better stats. Contract years depend on good numbers and a lot of players; these last few games are their job audition tapes, whether they remain in Cleveland or not.
The Steelers have an opportunity to head to the playoffs, but only with an AFC North Division title. The Browns are one game away from cleaning out their lockers and watching the postseason at home on big screen TVs.
In the end, the Steelers did not show that they are a playoff-bound team with very little offense, as the Browns won a close one 13-6.
So who played well for the Browns? Who didn’t?
———————————————————————————————————————————————————
LB Carson Schwesinger – If somebody told you that after this game, Schwesinger was carted off to the hospital, not a single person would wonder or blink an eye. The dude played on crutches the entire second half. Sometime in Quarter 2, he got his right foot twisted, and from that point on, he hobbled and jumped and stood on one leg in the huddle. Yet, he tied for the most tackles in the game with nine. He would not go out, and by his remaining in the game, it was apparent that he wasn’t a liability.
So, DC Jim Schwartz allowed him the game time. In the third quarter, while making a tackle, he got his bell rung by teammate Cameron Thomas, who missed the ballcarrier and pummeled Schwesinger instead. And it wasn’t like if the Browns won, they would advance to the post-season or improve their seed. Nothing was on the line. Amazing athlete who has zero quit.
K Andre Szmyt – What do you want out of your kicker? To go perfect on all kicks, which is what Szmyt did in this game. 2-2 on field goal attempts and converted the lone PAT. The 50-yard field goal was straight and true. A single kickoff into the end zone placed the Steelers at the 35. Good day at the office.
P Corey Bojorquez – What is the league-leading average? 51.7 yards per punt. In this game, Bojo averaged 57.0 yards on his four punts. His longest was 64 yards. Great game.
S Grant Delpit – Was a very busy day for Delpit as the Steelers didn’t have the running game they expected and needed to throw more. Delpit stopped TE Darnell Washington after an 11-yard gain in the first quarter, but the down was a third-and-16. On...
